Whether you want to explore the stunning local coastline, learn how to make pasta or have the experience of a lifetime we have it covered. See our top 3 trips & experiences, and a host of other things to do, below.

BOAT HIRE
If you feel like an adventure, the best way to explore this stunning coastline is to hire a boat for a full or half day. You will be able to view the coves from sea level or anchor off shore and swim the short distance to enjoy your own secluded beach. Boats are available to rent from several outlets in Tropea or directly from the hire companies based in the port.
PEDALLO HIRE
An easier and much cheaper option is to hire a pedallo from Grotticelle beach and explore at a more leisurely pace. You'll also be able to get right to the shoreline with no need to swim from a boat.
CLIFF TOP VIEWS / GIARDINO DEGLI DEI
If you want to experience the breathtaking views from above there are a couple of great viewpoints which offer a fantastic opportunity to see why the area is known locally as the "Coast of the Gods". We highly recommend you visit Il Giardino degli Dei (pictured) a botanical garden with unrivalled views. The Terrazza Panoramica at Bar Gelateria Palomas just a few minutes away is well worth the trip for more incredible vistas.

DAY TRIP
The trip to Stromboli is a full day out but definitely worth the effort. First, you'll have time on the boat to relax and take in the view of Tropea as you leave the port. Once you arrive you'll be able to explore this beautiful and unique island on foot. The beaches have striking black sands and the white-washed town is full of interesting craft shops and great places to eat, and you can even hear and feel the rumble of the volcano! The final, and most exciting, part of your day is to watch the regular eruptions from the safety of your boat and enjoy the spectacular sunset before you return to the mainland.
GOT MORE TIME?
If you want to take a longer trip you can visit more of the Aeolian Islands (Panarea, Volcano, Lipari) or stay overnight on Stromboli to see the eruptions from an elevated viewpoint and experience the island nightlife.

COOKERY CLASS
If you've ever wanted to learn how to make fresh pasta from a real life Italian Nona then this could be the activity for you! Learn the skills and techniques passed down through the generations and enjoy the end result over a glass or two of local wine. We can share recommendations on request.
WINE TASTING AND VINEYARD TOUR
High on the hills just a short drive from Tropea you will find a whole community of family run vineyards. Many of these now offer you the chance to learn how the wines are produced followed by an extensive tasting experience accompanied by delicious local food. We can share recommendations on request.

If you've never tried it we can definitely recommend a parasailing trip along the Tropean coastline! You'll get unrivalled views from above and its just a lot of fun. Go to the Port to book your trip from one of the boat hire companies.
TOP TIP: Take your trip at sunset for an even more spectacular experience

The stunning crystal clear sea is teaming with fish, especially on Michelino Beach. The rocks at either side of the beach, and off shore, create the perfect environment to see an abundance of different marine life in their natural habitat. If you want a more challenging experience guided scuba diving tours are available at the port.
TOP TIP: Take some bread with you to feed the fish - you'll be surrounded in no time by 100's of fish for an unforgettable marine expereince!

The pretty town of Scilla, just over an hour away, is famous for the restaurant jetties which make a really beautiful location for lunch or dinner. There is also a beach, harbour and town to explore.

If you want to break up your stay then you can easily visit Sicily for the day or even have an overnight stay. It's just 1.5 hours to the port near Reggio Calabria where there are regular ferries to Sicily. Once here we recommend the 45 minute journey to Taormina to explore this famous hilltop town made even more famous by the TV show White Lotus. You can also explore Mount Etna from here.
TOP TIP: Book your ferry in advance to secure the time you want to cross

There's a world to discover away from the coast. High in the mountains, where the air is cooler, there's a myriad of quaint villages and fascinating places just waiting to be explored. Take a day trip up the winding mountain roads to Stilo, Gerace, and beyond, where you'll see a whole new side to Calabria

The area has a rich and fascinating history whose culture and traditions have been shaped by Greek, Roman, Arabic, French and Spanish invasions. You can learn more with a guided historic tour of Tropea, a visit to the Castle Museum & Grotto in Pizzo or by viewing the ancient artifacts at Vibo Valentia Castle.
